Film School is our Sunday morning spiritual formation class.
We gather at 9:00 am in the lounge of St. Thomas Church.
All ages are welcome starting with 7th – 12th graders, young adults, seasoned veterans, and more.
And yes, parents can come and see
what it’s all about too!
Film School gathers from mid-September thru mid-May.

so you just sit in a room
and do this?

Well, not exactly.
We aren’t really all that interested in just watching movies…But we are interested in what story is being told. God is The Great Storyteller.
The Scriptures are filled with story after story (not myths, not legends, not fables) and these Stories tell of God’s People cooperating with God in order to make the world as God wants it to be.

Sometimes we get it right.
Sometimes we miss the mark.
As we watch films in Film School,
we talk about how the story being
told in the film lines up
(or doesn’t line up)
with The Story that God is telling in Scripture and in our world today.

OK, but why don’t you do a bible study like other sunday schools?

We do.
We read the Bible in Film School.
Every. Single. Time.
Film School wouldn’t and couldn’t exist without the Bible. Films are the way that our culture today tells its Story and we must always take the opportunity to measure that against God’s Story.

There are too many to list here.
we’ve done animated films, dramas, comedies, super-hero, fantasy, etc. Again, we’re more interested in what Story is being told and not so much the special effects
(but those are awesome too!)

Film School will look a bit different in the fall of 2026 as we’ll be gathering in the lounge instead of the youth room, and due to the Packers’ schedule, as well as this being tied in with another Sunday school class, film school will be every other month so here’s what’s coming in the last couple of months of 2026

This is one of the best films you’ll ever see, seriously. It’s a coming of age story but it’s also about a “family” trying to find their way in an unstead world and confusing time. You won’t wanna miss any of the 4 Sundays that we’ll be watching this film!

Since we’ll be going “every other week” during Advent, we’ll be watching a series of short films produced by Pixar Annimations. They’re fun, poignant, and they’ll make you think!
